When we disregard the least and the last. When we treat anyone – children or anyone – as pre- or sub- or ante- human, Jesus is clear:

Mistreating anyone is mistreating Jesus.

What we do to them we are doing to God.

Jesus isn’t treating the child as a prop. He is lifting up the child as the most important, the last in line becoming first priority above ego, status, access to capital, papers, class.
