“Motherhood and Discipleship” – a message from The Rev. Kaji Douša

Here at my church, The Park, the way that we celebrate for Mother’s Day is that we acknowledge that the call to discipleship that Jesus gives us – gives to each one of us – requires a certain kind of mothering, and that means different things for different people. We don’t assume anything about your story of mothering, but we do wonder what it is in the experience of mothering that so many people have, that they do what Jesus asks the Disciples to do: to love unconditionally, to nurture, to give birth to new things in life. And whatever your story is with your mother, or with any mothers in your life – whatever your story is for mothering others, what we do is we give thanks that your discipleship – your following of Jesus – is like the hen hovering over her brood, and loving others as he did. Happy Mother’s Day to every single human on this Earth. Thank you.
