“In Gratitude for Rachel Held Evans” – a message from The Rev. Kaji Douša

Very recently, the world lost a great light in Rachel Held Evans. Rachel Grace was 37 years old, leaves behind a 1- and a 3-year-old and a husband and so many millions who loved her and were grateful for her work and her ministry. And here at The Park, we send our condolences to all who are mourning this loss. But here’s what is true in her death and in every death: God is not finished with Rachel. Rachel came into this world and saw opportunity to change it for the better – and she left this world better than she found it. And that’s my inspiration and I hope it will be ours today, too – to find the corner of the world where we can do one tiny thing, so that we can also say we are leaving this world better than we found it. I’m trying to live every day as if it were my last. Rachel was just 37 – she shouldn’t have died from the flu. We never know when our moment will come. But may we all live our lives in such a way that the choices we make, at the end of the day, we can be proud of. I know that Rachel could be proud of her life because she did so much. She is my inspiration today. Thank you, God, for letting us have this light for 37 years. Amen
