“Come Away with Me” by The Rev. Kaji Douša

In the Gospel of Mark, chapter 6, Jesus sees how the disciples have done this wonderful job of reaching out to all these people who were starting to realize what good news he was bringing to the world. And they came back, and he said, “You know what, you have done such a wonderful job, I would love it if you would come away with me to a deserted place.” So, they get in this boat. But as they’re leaving, the crowds, the crowds then start to gather on the other side, so that there’s no space for them to have their retreat. And this might sound like bad news. But I believe the good news is that Jesus is always going to give us the boat ride. It may not be the retreat on the other side. As we’re in that boat, God is going to give us what we need to be with God, to commune with God, to observe the Sabbath – which is a holy commandment from God – so that we’re prepared to be loving and compassionate on the other side of the shore. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
