“But … God’” by The Rev. Kaji Douša

So just the other day I was confronted with this problem that was just unsolvable, and everywhere I turned, I just kept hitting a wall, so I thought, “Well, if I research how to resolve this problem hard enough, then maybe I’ll find something.” But it still didn’t work. And then I thought, “Well, if I ask enough people questions, who are experts in this field, maybe I’ll find an answer.” And while those are good things to do, it still wasn’t resolving anything for me. And what it came to – and the place where the turnaround happened – was when I finally got on my knees, and I came to church and I got on my knees and I asked God, “What do I do, God?” And the answer was, “Stop turning everywhere, the answer, the solution is right in front of you.” Now, that isn’t always the case. But what I do want to say is that God always has an answer to our prayers, and sometimes it will just feel like you were at the end of your rope, where you’ve just tried everything – and do try everything – but maybe don’t put turning to God last. Imagine if I had felt the confidence and the faith, just the side of a mustard seed, to turn to God first and say, “Inspire me, God, in my research, and in my work, an in my yearnings, and in my wondering, so that I can do what’s right, and good and worthy of your calling. And I invite all of us to consider the same – when it’s all too much, remember … but God… but God will step in, God will answer, God will provide. God’s provision is sufficient. Thanks be to God. Amen.
