“A Call to The Sanctuary of Caravan” by The Rev. Kaji Douša

Just a few days ago we have learned of yet another loss of a child at our border. As families in desperation coming from Central America are walking thousands of miles to try to find safety, they somehow make it that far and yet are not able to reach safety once they cross into our territory here in the United States. And because of this we are calling on congregations across the country to join us at the border. To come one person, to come one hundred and we would train you to advocate for people seeking asylum, to help them to advocate for themselves, to accompany them to the border, to teach them and to teach yourself what a pro se legal clinic, a place where people learn how to advocate and how to find their own voice in our very complex system. We want you to come, come with us to Tijuana, come with us to San Diego, so that you can see for yourself, go back home and have a brand-new level of commitment to changing the way we address immigration in this country. So, for 40 days and 40 nights we will be at the border in San Diego, if you don’t have a passport, stay there, and if you can – especially if you speak Spanish – cross the border with us. And we will support people, we will love them, we will take care of them. Thank you.
