Question: “Why are you so afraid?” (Mark 4:40)

The wind is howling. The waves are rising. Does Jesus panic? No. Instead, he asks:

“Why are you so afraid?”

This is a question of trust.

This Week’s Study Guide

Scripture: Mark 4:35–41

(Imagine yourself in the boat. Hear the storm. Feel the fear.)

Reflection:

Jesus is in the boat, but the storm still comes.

That’s real life.

But His question cuts deeper than the waves: Why are you so afraid?

Maybe not because you shouldn’t be—but because fear doesn’t get the final word.

Questions for Reflection or Small Group:

  1.   What fear is taking up too much space in your heart right now?
  2.   Where do you feel like God is “sleeping” while you’re struggling?
  3.   How might faith call you to respond differently?

Spiritual Practice for the Weekend:

When fear shows up, try saying aloud:

“Peace, be still.”

Say it as many times as you need. Let it become your breath prayer this weekend.
