A Message from Pastor Kaji

July 25th,2024 Categories: Weekly Letter

Sunday July 28

Dear Church:

In my time as a pastor, I have seen the crippling effect of lies on myself and on the people I serve. Thankfully, I’ve seen an antidote: truth. The liberating power of truth deflates the detrimental effects of lies – in part because God is not a liar.

The Gospel text affirms Jesus’ understand that truth sets us free. God is truth. Rather than being ensnared to untruths – however “white lies” they may seem – we can learn to embrace life and its circumstances as they are. If God is honest (which God is) why aren’t we [sometimes]?

I can’t wait to hear how this conversation plays out in truth and love.

Pax Christi,

Pastor Kaji

SCRIPTURE
John 8:31-36 (NRSV):

31 Then Jesus said to the Jews who had believed in him, “If you continue in my word, you are truly my disciples, 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” 33 They answered him, “We are descendants of Abraham and have never been slaves to anyone. What do you mean by saying, ‘You will be made free’?”

34 Jesus answered them, “Very truly, I tell you, everyone who commits sin is a slave to sin. 35 The slave does not have a permanent place in the household; the son has a place there forever. 36 So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.
