A Message from Pastor Kaji
Sunday July 21
What we say about God matters. But what we think about God matters even more. There is no shortage of images or descriptions of God. Many times, these are developed in connection with a broader agenda.
What we think about God has so much to do with how we operate in the world. But we need a lens, a filter, as more and more information about the divine comes to us.
I composed our summer series for 2024, prayerfully, with this corrective in mind. Considering what others tell us god is versus who God truly is. What we think about God shapes our lives.
For the next several weeks, we will explore what the Bible and faith teaches us about who God is and what God is not.
My prayer is that this summer worship series and liturgical format in church offers you opportunities to reflect internally – and in community – on the truth about God and the lies that can try to take us away from God. My hope is that, at the end of this series, you and our community will have new clarity on ways to hone in on who and what God actually is, for the sake of your spiritual life and growth.
Delight in our God, church! For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised!
Pax Christi,
Pastor Kaji
SCRIPTURE
Matthew 16:13-16 (NRSV):
13 Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” 14 And they said, “Some say John the Baptist but others Elijah and still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” 15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” 16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah,[a] the Son of the living God.”
