A Message from Pastor Kaji

I hope this message finds you in good spirits as we continue to navigate the challenges and opportunities of life in New York City. This Sunday, I am excited to share a message that speaks directly to our shared experiences of financial stress and the burden of debt.

Living in one of the most expensive cities in the world, many of us are all too familiar with the weight of debt. Whether it’s student loans, credit card debt, or the high cost of living, it can often feel like we’re trapped in an endless cycle. But what if I told you that even in the midst of this, there is hope?

This week, we’ll dive into a profound story from 2 Kings 4:1-7. It’s about a widow who, facing the loss of her children to a creditor, discovers that what she thought was nothing—a simple jar of oil—holds the potential for a miracle. This story is a powerful reminder that God sees our potential and can multiply even the smallest resources when we place our trust in God.

Here’s a little teaser from the sermon: sometimes we feel like we have nothing left to give, but God sees our potential and is ready to work miracles through us. What small thing in your life could God use to create abundance?

This Sunday, we will explore:

– How faith can transform our perception of what we have.

– The importance of community and asking for help.

– The ways in which God’s provision can bring about real change in our lives.

2 Kings 4:1–7 (Year B, p. 208):
 
1 Now the woman of a member of the company of prophets cried to Elisha, “Your servant my husband is dead and you know that your servant revered the HOLY ONE, even so, a creditor has come to take my two children as slaves.” 2 So Elisha said to her, “What shall I do for you? Tell me, what have you in the house?” And she answered, “Your slave-woman has nothing at all in the house, except a jar of oil.” 3 Then he said to her, “Go ask from outside, vessels from all your neighbors, empty vessels and not a few. 4 Then go in and shut the door behind you and your children and pour into all these vessels and when full, you shall put each aside.” 5 Thus she departed from him and shut the door behind her and her children; they continued bringing vessels to her and she continued pouring. 6 And it happened as the vessels were filled she said to her child, “Bring me another vessel.” And her child said to her, “There is no other vessel.” And the oil ceased. 7 Then she came and told it to the man of God, and he said, “Go, sell the oil and pay your debts and you and your children can live on the remainder.”
