People love to command us when they are not convincing enough to persuade us. They love to command when they know that we would never accept their invitation. They adore nothing but the wills to which they want us to bend. But just because they want this, doesn’t mean it must happen. And that’s an epiphany… Unless the command comes from God, we do best to receive commands in general with a hermeneutic of suspicion.
