Ruth 4:9–17

Protection

Ruth 4 brings us to the gate of Bethlehem, where Boaz speaks before the elders and the people. This public scene is about inheritance, kinship, and the protection of a family line that has been under threat. The community bears witness, and the women later name what God has done: Naomi actually does have a next-of-kin. The child born to Ruth becomes a restorer of life and a provider in Naomi’s later years. Protection in this text is deeply tender. God’s care moves through people who act with responsibility.

Questions for Worship Preparation:

  • Where have you experienced protection through the faithfulness of other people?
  • Who has helped restore life in a place where loss had become heavy?
  • What responsibility might you carry for protecting someone else’s future?
