Children and Youth Ministry Update from The Rev. Francesca Fortunato

January 2nd,2021 Categories: Latest News
Dear Park People,

On Sunday December 27th (my final Sunday with the children, as my Children’s Minister position ends) we had a “children choose the Bible stories” day. The stories selected by the children were The Baptism of Jesus (from The Mystic Bible) and the parable of the Good Samaritan (from the Complete Illustrated Children’s Bible). The baptism story appealed to the children because baptisms were events that they had witnessed in church, and it was cool to see Jesus experience something that had been part of their own lives. The child who chose the Good Samaritan parable said that their choice was “Because the story reminds us that it’s important to be kind.”

We also shared our Christmas experiences, which were, of course, quite different this year, from past Christmases. The children talked about gifts that they had enjoyed giving and receiving; good Christmas foods. But there was an underlying wistfulness. The last 10 months have been hard and sad for children, as well as for adults. As I leave this ministry, I will continue to hold the Park children in my heart and prayers; that they may find renewed freedom, hope, and joy, in 2021.

I will leave you all with my favorite benediction, attributed to Saint Clare of Assisi:

“Live without fear. Your Creator loves you, made you holy, and has always protected you. Now, go in peace, to follow the good road, and may the Blessing of God be with you always.”

Blessings and well wishes as always,
Rev. Francesca Fortunato: Children’s Minister
