Children and Youth Ministry Update from The Rev. Francesca Fortunato

June 26th,2020 Categories: Latest News
Dear Park People,
On  June 21st, our next-to-last Sunday of the academic year, the Park Sunday school children read Saint Paul’s letter to the Romans (chapter 8) and used Paul’s ideas about signs of God’s love, as a springboard for our own conversation on the subject. The children thought about various things that they saw in the world that reminded them of God’s love (“hearts,” “rainbows,” “people who help,” ‘flowers and plants;” “cats and dogs.”) Then, we drew pictures of those things, to serve as reminders that God’s love is always with us, and evident in our lives.

On  June 28th, our last Sunday of the program year, we will continue the love theme, with St. Paul’s letter to the Corinthians (the famous “love chapter,” commonly read at weddings. ) We will talk about the ways that we can show our love, for God, and for other people. (I plan to toss out the suggestion that children write letters – as Paul did – to members of their community this Summer, to keep that wonderful friendship love alive.) Rev. Cara, who will be leading our Summer program, will be present also, in order to get acquainted with the children and Sunday school teachers, and talk with all of us about her plans for lessons and activities with them.

As we approach Pride weekend, I also want to just take this opportunity to inform all of this community (adults as well as children) of city-wide plans for a Pride shout-out, on June 26th, 27th, and 28th, at 1 PM. You can participate by stepping outside in front of your home, from 1:00 PM -1:05, with Pride flags or signs, wearing Pride clothes/accessories, perhaps making some music that you associate with Pride…

I plan to be outside my building, all three days, with my wife, Lynn, waving our rainbow, Bi Pride, and Trans Pride flags. It’s a great (fun and easy) way to take your Pride out in the world, in this year when the pandemic has made marches and rallies impossible.

Blessings and well wishes with love and Pride!
