Children and Youth Ministry Update from The Rev. Francesca Fortunato

Dear Park People,
Special thanks to our Facilities Director, David Sookai, for assembling  our beautiful new, rainbow-colored chest of drawers, and, generally, helping us get settled and organized in this year’s children’s ministry space, in the Fellowship Hall. It’s looking nicer every week, and giving the children plenty of room for creativity and active play.

On Sunday October 13th, the Sunday school children will have a guest instructor, alongside me and our teachers, Ms. Laura and Ms. Glenda; Interim Minister of Music, Paul Vasile. They will be learning songs from him, and practicing for participation in multi-generational/bilingual arts-based worship services, which are being created in Rev. Jeanette Zaragoza’s workshops this season. I hope that many children will be present for this special learning opportunity, which promises to be exciting and fun for them.

On Sunday, October 6th, The Park Sunday school children read 2 Corinthians 8: 8-13. Discussion focused on generosity, kindness, and fairness, as values to be upheld by church members, as we do our best to follow the teachings of Jesus. The children talked about the importance of sharing their things, taking turns, and listening to each other’s requests. Our creative response activity was a game involving one of the children’s all time favorite toys; Play Doh! They divided the Play Doh into equal amounts, and then made “food” according to each other’s requests. There were pies, cookies, fruits; cupcakes…

Blessings and well wishes as ever,
Rev. Francesca Fortunato: Children’s Minister
