Children and Youth Ministry Update from The Rev. Francesca Fortunato

September 26th,2019 Categories: Latest News
Dear Park People,
On Sunday September 22nd, The Park Sunday school children read Luke 16: 19-31 (the story of the rich man and Lazarus). We discussed the importance of listening, attentively, to each other (something that the rich man had not done, for Lazarus, or for others in his community) and how being good listeners makes us better friends. The children gave examples of good listening behaviors (not interrupting, noticing how people feel, as well as what they say; showing that you care, when they are sad).

For their creative response activity, the children played “Telephone “ (a game that most of them had played before) in which they passed whispered messages around a circle, doing their best to hear what was said, and repeat it accurately. They mostly succeeded, and had a lot of fun, sharing messages that got increasingly goofy and silly, as the game went on!

On Sunday September 29th, we will read Luke 17: 5-10 (the parable of the mustard seed). We will talk about the gift of faith, and the ways that our faith in God (“even as small as a mustard seed“) can empower us to do great things. For our creative response activity, we will do mind-map drawings, representing the many, wonderful things that grow, from our little mustard seeds of faith.

Blessings, well wishes, and high hopes, as ever,
Rev. Francesca Fortunato: Children’s Minister
