Children and Youth Ministry Update from The Rev. Francesca Fortunato
Dear Park People,
I hope you enjoyed the first full Sunday of Spring. On March 24th, the Sunday school teachers, Ms. Laura, Ms. Glenda, and I, used the time for an impromptu Sunday school staff meeting, discussing, among other things, the ways that the children will participate in the Palm Sunday service (doing pre-recorded readings; handing out palms), and the things that we need to buy and prepare, for their after-service Easter egg hunt, on Easter Sunday. We also took time to brainstorm about ways to handle our ongoing challenges around children’s ministry space, as construction at The Park continues (stay tuned for more on that, later this week).
On March 31st, the children will read Luke 15: 17-24 (The Prodigal Son). We will discuss situations where the children might have done things that made their parents worry about them (as the father in the parable worries about his son) and the message that God wants to be with us and protect us, just as our parents and other adults do. Our creative response activity will be dramatic play, in which children will take on the roles of both the worried parent, and the child who has done something to make the parent worry. As in the parable, the stories that we act out will conclude with happy reunions and celebrations.
Blessings, well wishes, and high hopes, as ever,
Rev. Francesca Fortunato: Children’s Minister
