Children and Youth Ministry Update from The Rev. Francesca Fortunato
Dear Park People,
On Sunday March 3rd, the Park Sunday school children read the story of the Transfiguration of Jesus; Luke 9:26-28. Discussion focused on the ways that powerful, emotional experiences, which make us feel different on the inside, can also make us look different to other people, as was the case with Jesus and the disciples, during the mountain top experience. For their creative response activity, the children drew self portraits, in which they showed themselves looking different from their everyday selves, because of their feelings about special occasions and experiences.
On March 10th, the children will read Luke 7:1-10, and will discuss the essential teaching of Jesus, that there are no enemies or strangers; that we are all one family in God, called to love and help each other, as Jesus did for the “enemy” Centurion and his servant. For their creative response activity, they will brainstorm, and write lists of ways that they have helped strangers, and been helped by them, as well as ways that these things might happen in the future.
Blessings, well wishes, and high hopes, as ever,
Rev. Francesca Fortunato: Children’s Minister
