Children and Youth Ministry Update from The Rev. Francesca Fortunato

January 4th,2019 Categories: Latest News

Dear Park People,

On our last Sunday of 2018, December 30th, the Park Sunday School children read the story of the Royal Visitors (in preparation for Epiphany) in their Spark Children’s Bible. We discussed the fact that the Visitors made long trips, from different countries, because their wisdom was leading them to Jesus. This was an indication of God’s love for all people; not just those from one part of the world, or of one specific religion.

For our creative response, we made lots of beautiful crowns to wear (and give to others) on Epiphany, as we honor and celebrate the journey of the Royal Visitors.

On Epiphany, itself (January 6th 2019) the children will be re-examining the story of the Wise Ones, by reading the version in the Children’s Bible Storybook, by the Archbishop Desmond Tutu. The focus for discussion will be the gifts that they offered to the baby Jesus, and the gifts that we hope to offer,  with love and thanks-giving to God, in the New Year. The creative response will be the children’s participation in the Three Queens service, with processing, bearing gifts, and playing their percussion instruments during some of the lively music. May this season of increasing light bring many beautiful epiphanies to all of us!

Blessings and joy to you!
