Children and Youth Ministry Update from Kelsey Creech, Resident Seminarian

March 19th,2021 Categories: Latest News
Continuing our series on the events that led up to Jesus’ crucifixion, on Sunday March 14, we read about Jesus’ time in the garden of Gethsemane and Judas’ betrayal. We discussed prayer, falling asleep, and how Jesus heals his enemy even as they arrest him.

At 10 AM, our older students met to read Luke 22:39-53. We talked about  the disciples who fell  asleep while praying and compared ourselves to them in many ways, but we  mostly pondered why Jesus healed his enemy while being arrested, and what this meant for our faith. We talked about forgiveness and issues of justice.

At 10:30 AM, our younger children followed this same story line. Last Sunday, we read the third section of “Jesus’ Last Days” in our Tiny Truths Illustrated Bible. We talked about falling asleep while praying and wondered at how the disciples must have felt when Jesus was being taken away.

This week, our older students will read John 19:16-30 and our younger students will  read the final section of “Jesus’ Last Days” in our Tiny Truths Illustrated Bible. In both groups, we will review what we’ve heard of the story so far, read the new text, then talk about where we believe the story will go next and how the story matters for our lives. We will pray, sing, and say goodbye with a blessing.

This marks the second to last Sunday of our Lenten Journey. I await the coming Easter Season with eagerness, for this year’s Lenten walk has been hard on my spirit. Be gentle with yourselves, beloveds. God walks this road with you, with us all.

Through Grace,
Kelsey Creech, Resident Seminarian
